This article presents preliminary studies for the construction of a breakwater in the Coronel bay. Waves propagating towards the
Coronel bay may cause undesirable effects on the operation of Port Coronel. Since a second jetty is under construction and another
one is planned it is therefore very important to avoid disturbance of port operations.A computer wave model was used to simulate
different scenarios of waves propagating towards the bay. Results shown that a breakwater is required to protect. Port Coronel against
waves from the northwest. A design and construction method of a breakwater is presented.
