Different types of erosion, which can occur on slopes, are presented and defined. Various kinds of materials available in industry are described in relation to their capacity in the control of slope erosion. In addition to these materials, it is included the description of vegetation cover and techniques to sow their seeds. A section of the Itata Motorway is experimentally studied, thereby an artificial rain device is designed to test eight different systems of erosion protection. Rain was applied to simulate intense precipitations which occurred between June and July 2006 around the Great Concepción. It is concluded that even the protection cover with the largest amount of eroded material was better than having no cover at all. The use of any composite-turf reinforcement mat requires taking into account the type of soil to be protected.
